2018 Walt Disney World 5k - 27:52

This is the second post for the 2018 Dopey Challenge. Checkout my recaps for the expo, 10k, half marathon, and marathon. Starting off the runDisney Marathon Weekend is the 5k. If you’re doing the Dopey Challenge, this is where your running running begins for the weekend. In the past, the race has started at 6am, a half hour later than the rest of the races. However, this year, runDisney bumped the start of up a half hour, thus slashing 30 precious minutes of sleep right at the beginning of the damn weekend 🖕. [Read More]

2018 Dopey Challenge expo and pre-race

This is the first post for the 2018 Dopey Challenge. Checkout my recaps for the 5k, 10k, half marathon, and marathon. Given that one of my goals for this year was to write more, but shorter posts, I’m going to try to really break up this year’s Dopey Challenge recap into a whole series of shorter posts. Training In past years, I’ve been really bad about training for Disney’s Marathon Weekend. [Read More]

2017, be gone! 2018...try not to suck.

Well, 2017. What can we say about you? You were not good. We all thought 2016 was pretty much the worst, but 2017, you found a way to top it. For most those of us who expected 2017 to be even worse than 2016, I think it lived up to nearly every nightmare we expected. In some ways, it was even much worse than expected. While 2017 felt like it was decades long and has probably aged us all at least that much, I do think there was a lot in 2017 that should give us hope, as long as you’re willing to see it. 2017 Chicago Marathon - 3:32:28

Chicago Marathon number three and my twelfth marathon overall! Let me just say off the bat, I have weird mixed feelings about this race. It’s hard to complain about a 3:32 finish and a BQ, but I’m not exactly thrilled with how I got there. But before I get into the race itself… Pre-race Danielle and I got to Chicago in the early afternoon on Thursday and, for the most part, I didn’t want to spend too much time on my feet, but Thursday and Friday ended up being bit more walking around than planned. The case of 2016

I’ve been putting off writing this all month, partially because I’ve been lazy and depressed since the election, but mostly because thinking about 2016 makes me feel weird and guilty. 2016 has been an awful hell year in almost every way imaginable. We lost celebrities and public figures who have inspired us and changed our lives. We lost scientific figures who made important discoveries. We elected Donald Trump as our next President after the worst election year pretty much any of us have been a live to see. [Read More]

Training recap: 10/6-10/12

Last week was crazy intense with my trip to the Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing (probably more on that soon), but I did manage to get four runs in! I ran two mornings while away in Phoenix which is what I was hoping to pull off, so I can’t complain. My Wednesday morning run was done on the hotel treadmill which was my first treadmill run since January, I believe. [Read More]

Running recap: 8/11-8/17

Some oysters from dinner on Wednesday. They were very yummy! I only knocked out 19 miles last week, but considering I was traveling for work in the middle of it, I don’t think that’s too bad. My whole schedule ended up being thrown off. I planned to run Monday and Wednesday, but instead ran Tuesday and Thursday. Monday’s run got pushed to Tuesday thanks to my entire department (well, those of us who were actually in the office) deciding to get up at 4pm to just leave and go to the Mexican place down the street for tequila shots and a happy hour that lasted until almost 9pm for me and way, way later for the rest of them.
